From the Appalachian State University Provost:
I am pleased to announce that Freakonomics has been selected for Appalachian’s Summer Reading Program for the entering 2006 freshman class. Co-written by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen Dubner, the book looks at “the hidden side of everything” from an economist’s point of view.
I am even more pleased to report that Dubner, a 1984 graduate of Appalachian, has agreed to be the Fall Convocation speaker, and will participate in discussions on and off campus about his writing career, which includes stints with The Washington Post, The New Yorker and New York Times Magazine. Dubner is also the author of the memoir Turbulent Souls: A Catholic Son’s Return to his Jewish Family, which was named a Notable Book by the New York Times and was a finalist for the Koret National Jewish Book Award.
